Deputy Foreign Minister for Europe and American Affairs Saeed Jalili in a meeting with Chairman of Sweden's Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission Hans Blix briefed him on Iran's peaceful nuclear activities and confidence building measures and said that access to nuclear technology is the demand of the nation.

According to a report released by the Foreign Ministry Media Department, he added that 50 years ago during the nationalization of the oil industry such national concurrence was also witnessed.

"Iran has ratified the by-law stipulating the procedure for participation of foreign countries in Iran's enrichment process, which was first proposed by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the UN General Assembly annual meeting in New York.
"The draft-bill provides the highest guarantee of the peaceful nature of the enrichment process in Iran," he added.

He praised the approach and independent outlook of Blix on disarmament and ban of development of nuclear weapons.

For his part, Blix dismissed the weak reasoning of opponents of Iran's nuclear activities and its association with Iran's rich oil reserves and said that Russia, Mexico and the US also possess plenty of oil and gas reserves.

He rejected the proposals on setting up a nuclear fuel bank as unscientific and underlined that Iran's right for production of nuclear fuel in NPT framework is in line with the relevant convention.

Blix pointed to Iran's voluntary suspension of enrichment process as an evident confidence building effort.
