Iran, the biggest prison for journalists in the Middle East, is ruled by the Supreme Guide, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The media was again under siege in 2005 as the regime became harsher and more than a dozen publications were abruptly suspended. Journalists continue to be arbitrarily arrested. Khamenei, who accuses the press of being “in the pay of the enemy,” was the person mainly responsible for the violence against journalists in spring 2000.

Om Ahmadinejad skriver man:
The hardliner Ahmadinejad, a former “revolutionary guard,” took office as elected president of the Islamic Republic on 3 August 2005 and immediately purged the culture ministry (which supervises the press) of reformists and replaced them with hardliners. These new officials had in 1999 set up their own intelligence service enjoying complete impunity and having a private police force that cracked down regularly on the country’s intellectuals. Several government ministers are also revolutionary guards and were involved in arrests, torture and killings of Iranian journalists in 1998.
Ahmadinejads "track record" finns här.
Själva kampanjen går att hitta här.

Mojtaba Saminejad Blogger imprisoned for “insulting the Supreme Guide”
He was first arrested in early November 2004 over his online criticism of the arrest of three fellow bloggers. While held, his blog’s address was diverted to the website of a group of hackers linked to the Iranian radical Islamist movement Hezbollah (http://irongroup.blogspot.com/). On leaving prison, he resumed his blog using a new address (http://8mdr8.blogspot.com/), which led to his re-arrest.
When he appeared in court on 23 May 2005, he was unable to speak freely as he was accompanied by the policemen who had interrogated him in prison and this intimidated him, his lawyer said.
He is currently in Gohar Dashat prison, on the outskirts of Tehran, which is notorious for the mistreatment of detainees. He shares a cell with non-political prisoners. He was allowed to sit a mid-course exam at Tehran’s Azad university at the end of January but was led handcuffed into the examination room.
Another blogger, Arash Sigarshi, is also currently in prison in Iran for similar reasons.
