Thousands of women in Tehran joined today in an anti-government protest. The protest began with a gathering with couple of women in downtown Tehran but the crowd steadily grew to nearly a thousand.
The protests began in the nearby area of Tehran University by a group of courageous women who chanted “freedom, freedom” and who demanded a referendum on the Iranian constitution. The small gathering turned quickly to one of the biggest protests in Iran during recent times, when local inhabitants and by passers joined in the protests.
Quickly the demonstrators were surrounded by the regimes security agents who prevented people to join in the protests. The secret police and the paramilitary group of Bassijs were quickly sent out by the regime to quell the demonstrations and disperse the demonstrators.
The paramilitary group and the secret police have been seen beating demonstrators and carrying them away in vans.
